Man Made Slate Tiles for Roofs?

I have man made slate tiles for my roof, how should I finish off the sides? Should they overhang or cut flush to the roof and finished with a trim?
The man made tiles we are using are made to look like slate, they are quite light weight (and cheaper) in comparison to the real thing. The builders have cut the tiles flush to the side of the building saying that they shouldn’t overhang because they would eventually flap in the wind?

Are they having me on?

I believe a small over hang (about 3/4 – 1″, or 2.5 cm) would have been wise, to provide a drip edge.
